These are some free audiobooks I have read on mental health and self healing which I got through the Libby app for free. You can access the Libby app with a library card - https://libbyapp.com/interview/welcome#doYouHaveACard. If you do not have a library card, they are usually free with two pieces of mail or other ID at your local library, or you can apply online.
The titles of the audiobooks —
- Disability Visibility by Alice Wong
- Waking the Tiger by Peter A Levine and Ann Frederick
- Thriving With Social Anxiety by Hattie C. Cooper
- Advice for Future Corpses by Sallie Tisdale
- The Secret Therapy of Trees by Marco Mencagli and Marco Nieri
- The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben
Free Mental health websites with resources that have helped me —
https://www.nami.org/Home (they have warm lines which are like suicide hotlines but for non-crisis, groups for various mental illnesses, free online therapy sessions and meetings)
https://www.7cups.com/ (a free listener program where users can message real people 24/7 about any issue in almost any language, groups and chat rooms for specific mental illnesses, self-help guides, training programs, and paths to healing)
No matter what you have been conditioned to feel, or what you have been told regarding the amount you need to do to “just not feel depressed [insert any other mental illness here]” know that whatever you do for yourself is enough. Mental illness can be debilitating, and the fact that you are trying shows you are doing the healing work. I wish for you the world, I wish for you the power to change age old systems of oppression and to heal yourself in the process.
